– Transfusion support at HOCT is provided by laboratory services, with a 24 hour blood bank operating within the core laboratory.

– The clinical transfusion advice is provided by an hematologists 24 hours

– We prepare patients for transfusion prior to picking up blood from the blood bank. eg appropriate IV access, consent completed, pre-medication administered if required.

– Blood Transfusion will be limited to the following:

• Packed Red blood cells (PRBC)
• Aphaeresis platelets or pooled platelets
• FFP
• Cryoprecipoitate
