Dr. Peter Maturi Mwamba is a distinguished Hematologist/Pathologist specializing in the science of laboratory diagnosis and the management of patients with benign and malignant blood and lymphoid disorders. With over two decades of expertise in clinical pathology, Dr. Mwamba has established himself as a leading figure in Kenya’s medical and diagnostic landscape and the broader East African region.

Dr. Mwamba’s academic foundation is extensive, holding an MBChB in Medicine and Surgery and a Master of Medicine (MMed) in Clinical Pathology, both from the University of Nairobi. His specialized training includes prestigious fellowships in Hematology and Oncology from institutions such as West Virginia University, Emory University, and the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center in the USA. He has also earned post-graduate certificates in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from John Hopkins University and Global Health Leadership and Management from Washington University, further solidifying his expertise in leading complex health programs.

In addition to his clinical and academic achievements, Dr. Mwamba is a dedicated educator. He teaches at the University of Nairobi Medical School, where he has held numerous leadership roles, including his current position as Chairman of the Department of Human Pathology and International Liaison for the Faculty of Health Sciences. Over his 17-year tenure as a lecturer and senior lecturer, he has played a pivotal role in shaping future medical professionals in the fields of pathology and hematology.

He is an active consultant and expert in blood safety, having collaborated with global health organizations such as the CDC, Amref Health Africa, and the African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC).

A thought leader and advocate for healthcare reform, Dr. Mwamba is frequently invited to speak at international conferences, where he shares his insights on blood transfusion safety, cancer treatment in resource-limited settings, and advancements in diagnostic medicine.
